Interview

Why did you become a professional Illustrator?
Carolin Löbbert: I started to draw very early. When I was young we had a little blackboard in our kitchen on which I always drew. I also loved to draw the horses I observed on the meadow behind our house. My interest in drawing and painting also attended me during my teenage years and so I decided to apply at HAW Hamburg for illustration studies.

Was there an alternative career or opportunity?
Carolin Löbbert: Presumably I would have studied something with sport if it wouldn’t had worked out with my plan to study illustration in Hamburg. Maybe I would have become a professional basketball player or at least a fitness coach, inspiring to make more sit ups. :-)

Which part of your work do you like most?
Carolin Löbbert: I like most parts of my work. I love it to develop ideas with clients or by myself. I like it to work silently in my studio but it’s also great to do exhibitions and to meet other people and talk about art, illustration and creativity.

Which artist do you appreciate?
Carolin Löbbert: There a so many other artists and illustrators who’s work I really appreciate. At the moment I adore a lot traditional japanese woodcuts, these colours, patterns, lines and forms are just fascinating, I love it. For sure Katsushika Hokusai is one of the most famous artitst of these japanese form of art.

What inspires you in terms of your own work?
Carolin Löbbert: In my job I am very often inspired by new topics I have to acquaint myself with. Regularly I get texts about a subject I´ve never read about before. For these texts I have to find my own pictures and symbols. This is very informative and inspiring!
